| Two years ago when I got my IBM Aptiva, I found will searching the net an interesting twist on videogame entertainment... the ability to play console or arcade games on the computer. Emulation has been a touchy issue since it's birth, but it got even more controversial when systems as new as the Playstation and Nintendo 64 were successfully emulated (There is even been attempts at Dreamcast Emulation). Those that are fans of Emulation should know all the big names: MAME, one of the finest arcade emulators; UltraHLE, the controversial Nintendo 64 emulator; Snes9X, one of the best Super Nintendo Emulators; and so on. Emulators are generally free, but there are exceptions like Playstion emulators like Bleem. While checking out the Vintage Gaming Network, one of the finest Emulation sites out there, I've heard some news about Emulation on the Dreamcast. Therefore, I will take you on a brief tour of what Game lovers may see as a bold new step in gaming. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Bleemcast Ever since Bleem hit computers everywhere, it made waves by not only emulating Playstation, but on certain games improving the graphics. Now the emulator is slated to hit your Dreamcast and add 400 "new" games to the Dreamcast library. Bleemcast operates by puttin in a disk called a Bleempak in your Dreamcast. Each Bleempak is compatable with 100 Playstation games, and once loaded up... will ask you to insert a Playstation CD. Accessories for this emulator include an adapter that lets you connect a Playstation controller to your Dreamcast, and a controller fashioned after the Playstation controller for your Dreamcast. For more information on this exciting new emulator, click on the link below the image to the right to go to Bleem's offical website... and follow the directions to the Bleemcast section. |

| If you ever had a chance to play the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), then you know it was one of the greatest systems ever invented. On the computer many great emulators are out which will play most of the greatest games made for this system, but one of the finest would be Snes9X. This emulator plays all of the greatest games, has a great GUI (Menu System), and even has netplay. While you might not get to have a SNES emulator with netplay anytime soon... you soon may get a chance to experience Snes9x's great compatability on the Dreamcast through Sintendo, an exciting project with the lofty goal to port this fantastic emulator to the Dreamcast. Through burning the emulator and roms (backup images of games) you want to use onto a recordable CD, you can experience old school SNES gaming on your Sega Dreamcast. Follow the link below the image to your right to Sintendo's website. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Super Nintendo Emulation is all well and good, but for a true retro experience many would say we need a good NES (Nintendo Entertainment Sytem) emulator, well fear not, because the emulation community has you covered with Gleem. This nintendo emulator already has a working public beta, and is operated very much like how Sintendo will operate. This emulator is still slow and doesn't as of yet support sound but you can bet that will change in future releases. So click on the link below the image to the right to go to the homepage, and embrace NES emulation on your Dreamcast. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Finally, to stay ahead of the Dreamcast Non-Comercial Emulation scene, follow the link below to a site that is dedicated to dreamcast emulation, and has links to Sintendo, Gleem, and other emulators being worked on for the Dreamcast. I look forward to seeing the impact Dreamcast Emulators have on Emulation... as I expect that it will spark new life in the Emulation Community. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Bottom Line On Dreamcast Emulation: Unfortunately there is a downside to emulation on the Dreamcast. This downside is that there is an extreme difficulty for the average user to burn and use these emulators. I have used emulators for a long time, but I have not been able to install any emulators so far, and have not been successful in getting enough info from the authors... but maybe you'll have better luck. If any of you find a simple, step by step process to install these emulators... I implore you to email me at here . More to come... |
