WE HAVE PICTURES!!

Ok, the pictures are on the next page....one click away!

Dear Classmates,
Each year we see different faces. Every year I hope to see more faces. When asked why I do it, I can't help but answer, "Because I love my classmates, besides someone needs to do it. I guess that someone is me." But I couldn't do it without support from Elva Salinas Boren and Archie Acevedo and especially my life partner and hubby, Ralph F. Garza, who encourages me to continue doing this.
I'm not going to say that all my high school memories were great because they weren't, or that I had great experiences...I learned a lot. It's so strange but everytime I think about different classmates, I feel this love pouring out of my heart. I can't help it. Watching everyone grow up, moving away, finding their lifetime partners and having families is like watching my own family grow up. It isn't always all good but it isn't all bad...it's life. Some have done better than others, some have had more than their share of tragedy, some never got passed what we know were the cruelties of high school, most are content with their life. All I know is that in so many ways, it made me who I am. I can stand at a distance and watch, I can reflect and revel at the wonder of God and how he has touched each and every one of us and how I was touched by each and every one of you.
Some of us are gone from this earth and hopefully in a better place and I guess its from that point that all my efforts come from. You see whether you realized it or not we are a unique class. We were the first and last class of spirit...true spirit in every sense of the word. We were family and probably more united than any in the history of MHS. Our reunions can attest to that.
We have accomplished much. I know of two, soon to be joined by a third classmate, who received their Doctorate of Philosophy. Dr. Freddy Galan (deceased) and Dr. Dora Garcia Saavedra, both college professors and now Dr. Gloria Gonzalez Pena, who received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Bilingual Education May 7th. We have a County Judge, Gilbert Hinojosa & lawyer, Lawyers-Tommy Popplewell, Lee Salas, and Jack Edwards and I'm sure many more that I don't know about. Pediatric doctor-Dolores de los Santos Carrizales, Nurses-Krysti Buckley Davis, DeeDee Blankenbaker, dentist, Larry Balli and Ricardo Hidalgo, Physical Therapists-Linda Longoria Park, Hilda Guerra Edwards, and Richard Davis, Microbiologist- Celia Munoz Badiozzamani. We have insurance company owners & agents, Archie Acevedo and Fernando de la Garza. Fireman spokesperson, Rene Alaniz, CPA's-Rene Vega and Ruben Moreno and although Reynaldo Candelaria started as a CPA he is now in a radio comptroller. Countless teachers, Christina Vela Moreno, Cynthia Garza Weber, Jorge Guerra, Eloy Reyna, Hilaria de la Garza, Janie de Leon Barratachea, Imelda Ramirez Becho, Velma Arce Gonzalez, Kathy Miller Bledsoe, Jeanne Valverde Martinez, Viola Pena just to name a few. School principal-Diana Flores Alcocer. Border Patrol-Terry Lankford (ret.), Ricky de la Garza (ret.), Erasmo Rodriguez (ret.), and I think Refugio Huerta, Probation officers-Gilbert Sanchez, U.S. Marshall - Armando Gonzalez. Flight engineer-Rafael Chavez, actor and film producer-David Silva Countless business owners, postal workers, etc. Some of you have retired, some like me are still going to school, most of us have had the best job of all-- being parents -- and our kids are already in or out of college, getting married and starting their own families and some of us still have kids in elementary school. Some of those kids are serving our country today or undergoing training as we speak. We even have a reverend in our mist, Rev. Melissa Smith Nelson. All our dreams were being formulated in high school. But remember making a living is not the same as making a "life."
We have so many classmates who have gone before us and hopefully they'll be waiting for us when we make our transition. We have such a short time here on this earth--let's make it the best we can.
Just this last year, Class of 69 lost two of its finest, Carolyn Kawamoto and Alicia Cavazos and we lost Freddy days before our Reunion 2002. Some of us have lost parents recently, like Cynthia Garza Weber, Greg Holbrook, Debra Ludwig, Malcom Moses,Sharon Jeter, our condolences to them and their families.
Our gatherings are for that and more...to touch base with each other, to catch up, to give hugs and extend our hearts, to celebrate life, to celebrate our freedom, and because we never know when our name will be called. We're planning our "35" reunion, at least trying to get some input from you, and are hoping to make it a three-day celebration. Come join us for this year's reunion and get reacquainted, bring your photos, take a few, but do come....many of us miss you.
If I missed including your name and your profession, please forgive me, I don't know about everyone's wherabouts. If you'd like me to include you, send me a little bio, I know other classmates would like to know. Many have requested email address to communicate with each other. Unfortunately, not everyone feels free to divulge their wherabouts so please indicate whether you prefer to remain incognito...I can still let you know about plans we make.

Love,
Di

Hey, there are rumors of an Innkeeper Band Reunion at the David Clayton-Thomas and Blood Sweat and Tears Concert on May 20th. Class of 1970 hails three of those muscians...Rick de la Garza, drums and Eloy Reyna, trombone and Rick tells me there's also Santiago Esperiqueta, guitar. If ya'll read this...you better get to practicing!!!

Update!

Well, I know several of our classmates attended. Rick said it was fun. There was alot of hand shaking from former Innkeepers and that was it but the Blood, Sweat, and Tears were great!
