When I met you,
I thought nothing of you
Cute and sweet was about all.
We talked very little
Not really seeming interested
Besides ~ you were seeing someone
And I was on the rebound.
At the end of that first summer
I started working at the same place as you
We'd attempt to break together
We got to know each other
We became friends, good friends
Always stopping to say hi
Talking on the net
Occasionally making plans
One of our mutual friends
Kept us talking and getting together
You broke if off with your girl
And that's when I realized I cared for you
But knowing this made me wary
I backed off ~ tried to stay away
But it was impossible
And our friendship grew stronger
A few months later
One of my friends fell for you
And you fell back
Whether you'll admitt if now or not.
So I backed off for a second time
Wanting you to be happy
I wanted you to find me on your own
So I refused to push it.
You and her lasted a long time
Eight months ~ I'm fairly sure.
In the mean time I also met someone
Unfortunetly, that didn't work.
At last we were both single
And still the best of friends
But the attraction was growing deeper,
Getting harder to ignore
We did something almost every weekend
And sometimes in between
Then two of our friends started dating
And we did things even more.
My time with you
I always looked forward to.
The late night movies
While we talked and snuggled
People were always asking
How long we'd been together
Or if we were going out
It was as if God was pushing it
We decided to try an 'us'
Both hesitant
But I honestly think we'll work
It's almost impossible for us not to
We know the little nit-picky things
We're comfortable ~ about it all
We relax and share out thoughts and dreams
We really know it all
I already had cared about you
I can even say I loved.
And every day it grows stronger
I feel so lucky, too lucky.
It's amazing how 'best friends'
Can become the best of 'couples'
And I thank you for what you are to me
My confident, my other, my best friend.
