Rutt
A.K.A: Kirk Rutten born in Northwestern Nebraska Hometown: Hay Springs, Nebraska Current residence: Denver, Colorado(actually Littleton) E-mail: [email protected] Rutt:" It's pretty hard to name a Husker favorite, btu I guess if forced to do so, it would be Tommie Frazier (a true leader and the results speak for themselves). Some other notables not at all far behind would be Ahman Green (a serious talent with Nebraska roots that simply let his play speak for itself), the Mackovicka's (simply as examples of how Nebraska pride can drive kids from small towns to work hard, be the best they can and contribute to tradition). Turner Gill( the same reasons as Tommie Frazier, and now still a big part of the prgram). Grant Wistrom and Kenny Walker( both just very special in their own ways), and of course, how can one not include Tom Osborne, Bob Devaney, and Frank Solich.
I guess what Husker football does for me is provide somehwat of a mystique that other people recognize and know that they can never take away from you. I've lived in New Orleans and now of course, Denver. People recognize Husker football, and far and away, usually respect it. Even though Nebraska may be a "dumpy" little rural state to most, and may make their typical adverse remarks about the state or the school, it's a great feeling when you can look back at them wearing some Big Red article of clotherhing, give a little smirk and reply, "well okay, but what do you have?" They immediately know that whatever piece of leverage they thought they had is now gone, and it's probably jsut as well they keep it shut from thereon to avoid a debate they wouldn't win. And the comraderie of most all Husker fans is just another unique feeling all to it's own." |
