RedCladLoon

Given Name: "Steve"
Education, experience: UNL, '93. Once shared an elevator with Tommie Frazier. Lived two doors down from NU point guard Clifford Scales in Harper Hall. Veteran of several wars, including Missouri '97, Oklahoma State '98 and Colorado '99.

Current Whereabouts: Reno, NV. It's the so-called Biggest Little City in the World, though I've heard Gary, Ind., may be gaining on us. Previous stints in Iowa City, IA. and San Bernardino, CA.

Turn ons: Twelve-play drives, all on the ground. Last-second pitches on the option. Runzas.

Turn-offs: Fumblitis. Sports radio goons who bash NU. Major Applewhite.

My claim to fame: Well, I got mentioned once in an Omaha World-Herald article for having a really superfluous, unnecessary web site. Oh, and I've met the president, too. He called me "son". At the time I thought it was charming, but now I don't know if he was serious or not.

What I do when I'm not watching the Huskers: I'm a newspaper reporter covering the University of Nevada, Reno. There's really nothing very funny about that. I also am the keeper of the Pond, one of many starts in the Online Cornhusker Constellation. ThePond

First Spotted at: The 1980 Nebraska-Iowa game at Memorial Stadium. Jarvis Redwine popped off a long one on the second play from scrimmage and prompted Lyell Bremser to yell, "He's to the 45! To the 50! To the 55!...."R.I.P., Lyell.

Last spotted at: The 1996 Colorado game in Lincoln. Wore a Hefty bag and a pair of red galoshes. I listened to people yell bad stuff at Scott Frost -- the same folks who were kissing his patootie the following fall, of course.

My favorite Husker: It's got to be Johnny Rodgers. Basically because I was able to talk with him during a football celebrity golf tournament in California a couple of years back by stealing no-show Rick Neuheisel's name tag. Oh, and he had that one punt return, too.

Best Husker Moment: Tommie Frazier's big run vs. Florida. Being able to see it in person was a thing of beauty. In the chaos that followed, the Loons cheered even more loudly when watching it on the replay screens. It was the high-water mark of the Second Golden Age of Cornhusker Football.

Favorite Husker Game: So many to choose from. Colorado '94 was a goodie. Washington '97 had me giddy. All of 'em get beat out by a whisker by the Oklahoma win in '82, when the crowd engulfed Scott Strasburger after he picked off Kelly Phelps screen to seal the 28-24 Husker win.

Parting shot: Let's face it folks -- we're some of the luckiest dadgummed fans on the planet. We get to cheer for one of the best teams year in and year out that not only wins consistently but wins the right way. There really is no place like Nebraska, particularly on Saturday afternoon. Go Big Red.
