Play Paper
- You
may write a paper on any of the plays we read this semester with the
exception of Trifles and The Rising of the Moon.
- Use
the critical article in your analysis. Most of the plays are followed by
commentaries that focus on specific aspects of the play.
- The
strategy for you paper might be to agree or disagree with the
commentary. You might also use
the commentary to support you own ideas, or you might explain what you
think are the implications of the author’s ideas.
- The
paper should have an introduction and clear thesis or main idea.
- The
thesis should be developed in supporting paragraphs with clear topic
sentences and supporting details.
- All
references to the text of the play (direct quotation, summary, or
paraphrase) and the critical article must be documented using Modern
Language Association MLA format.
This format includes in-text citation and a Works Cited page.
- Use the
sample paper on “Miss Brill” by Katherine Mansfield as a guide for writing
and documentation.
