Our campsite on the Deschutes River

Here is our campsite on the banks of the Deschutes River. We had about 20 people here. The rest of our party were up river near the launch point. It is advantageous to have to stopping points for supplies and sometimes to get dry clothes and drop off things you don't want wet. The first mile or so is wide and tame, so picture-taking is done there before dropping off the camera at the campsite. The only other option is to have someone follow you in a car as the road follows the river the entire length of the rafting run. This was done to facilitate quick response time for emergency vehicles. Fun and games aside, whitewater rafting can be a very dangerous sport and strict safety rules must be observed. But with a little sensibility, one can go crazy without endangering their raftmates or themselves.

One thing I did notice; it was easy to determine who set up the campsite Thursday like we did. Those campsites are the ones with the big shade trees like the one you see in the background here. Those kind of trees average about one every half mile or so...
