| Worms open the Summer League with a thrilling 17-16 win over Universal Apt Service (formally Old American) who won the Spring League title. The Worms started slowly, going scoreless in the first 2 innings. After trailing 8-4 after 3, the Worms exploded for 9 runs in the 4th and went to the 5th with a slim 13-12 lead. The Worms padded the lead with 4 runs in the 5th, only to watch Universal tally 4 of their own. The game ended with the tying and winning runs on base. Ken Washington was the Worms hitting star, going 3-4 with a double, a homer, and 6 RBI. Terry Fabian also had 3 hits and 2 RBI, and David Broyles was 2-3 with a double, a triple, and 2 RBI. |
