Introduction to the Organization of the NotesGEOL 1001 Physical GeologyDale EasleyOrganizing material is a key part of remembering it. Random information doesn't stick with you---studies have shown this---but structured material is much easier to remember. At the end of each chapter is The Chapter in Review. Take advantage of this material. Read it before each class---it will only take 5 minutes---and you will be creating the structure in your mind for the rest of the notes to hang on. Many of you will be visual learners---more than half in an average class. My lectures will be in the format of Powerpoint and will closely follow the outlines in the pdf files I've created for each chapter. Print out the outlines ahead of class time and bring them with you to take notes on. Many of the graphics are in the text. However, the photos are not. I will show quite a few of the photos in the book plus many of my own photos. If I emphasize the figures in the lectures, it's only fair that I include slides on my tests, so pay attention to them. |
