The of Paradise
Entrancing eyes of enticing beauty Precious gift to Hellenes from Anatolian skies As bright and sparkling as the Aegean Sea; Such indeed are Ece's tantalizing eyes! If the eye is truly the window of the soul Then tarry awhile and look no further For in her eyes is mirrored pure and whole The loving throbbing heart of Earth's Mother! In Ece's eyes will men in vain seek to see The covetous minions of Lucifer's dominion Or the glitter that promises them wanton glee: She is the oculus that saves from perdition! Captivating is the glance that she casts From the heights of Athena's mystic hill And when she smiles, she plunges the past's Sorrows into the waters of Lethe, deep and still! She hails from ancient timeworn Smyrna And oft in summer morns from Mt. Pagus Her eyes have feasted on the bustling agora That in ruins still speaks of feats glorious In Aeolian and Ionian halcyon days When the gods immortal walked with mortals. There is a beauty that with us for'er stays As fragile as a leaf which in autumn falls. Such is the fate of man that he is born To behold beauteous sights only to die: His life is like dew in the early morn Gone as soon as the sun appears in the sky! Elegance, finesse and charm are her flowers Lightening life's burden; and in full blossom They fill the garden of our minds with showers Of mellifluous scents from God's kingdom! Lucky are those who in Apollo's sacred groves Have walked in Ece's blessed golden path For in gentle eves when the moon on secret coves Sheds a star-dusted light, her eyes seem to laugh Like a child fresh from Heaven's pearly gate. In one fleeting moment, in those shining eyes We catch a glimpse of the luminous veil of Fate In Ece's shimmering eyes, the Eyes of Paradise! Claudio WyeNovember 2000
