YELLOW BUTTERFLY
Soon the yellow butterfly will fly away
Fluttering from flower to flower
Like a bee in search of life's nectar
Sad, forlorn and weary, it will fly away.
Once the tropical sun in full splendour
Shed its warmth on its fragile wings
Giving it strength with a faint whisper
Of sweet melodies from celestial strings.
But the twilight orb is hurrying west
Soon the sky will spread its dark veil
Over the lonely bird flying to its nest
And the butterfly will shiver in the gale.
Like two drops of dew on a trembling leaf
This life will soon be but a distant memory.
The butterfly will sail away from grief
Into the valley of sweet eternal serenity.
Fly away, fly away my gentle yellow butterfly
Far away from man's relentless cruelty.
No hostile wind will again make you cry
Nor will mocking fate scorn your simplicity.
