I. S. E. 2003
Wonders
of the Imagination Science Exhibition
Awards
Ceremony
Welcome to W.I.S.E. 2003, the third
annual Wonders of the Imagination Science Exhibition. My name is Bill Werner and I’m the director
of the science fair. I’m here because
I believe we need to encourage our children to be interested and involved
in science.
I would especially like to thank
the people who have provided generous support for the science fair The judges—Nicole Carpenter, Bill Dumont, Auntaneshia
Garry, and Marcia Krisher—worked diligently in interviewing students and judging
the projects. Sharon Throm, Director
of Community Education and Services for Bedford Public Schools, provided the
support of the Community Education Program in staging the science fair.
Several parents made cash contributions for purchasing prizes and COSI-Toledo
and Scientific American magazine provided prizes for the award winners. Students showed interest and effort in entering
the science fair and their parents encouraged them and worked with them.
Without the interest and involvement of these people and organizations,
there would be no W.I.S.E. 2003
Now is the time to present awards.
Winners will receive a science medal with an appropriately colored
ribbon, an individualized certificate of achievement, an individualized award
certificate, and a prize. The
winner of the “best of show” will also receive a trophy.
I will recognize award winners in
the following sequence: the W.I.S.E. Award for the “best of show” and then
the first place, second place, and third place winners beginning with the
upper grade levels.
As I call upon each student, please come up on the stage. After
receiving your medal and your award envelope, you may, if you wish, talk to
the audience for about a minute about your science fair project. Then you may select any one of the remaining
prizes. After selecting your prize,
please tell me the prize number of the prize you selected. If parents wish to help their younger children
make their prize selection, they may do so. I encourage award winners to send a note of thanks to the organization
that contributed their prize.
After the winning students have been
recognized, I will recognize the other students who participated in the science
fair. Each of these students will
receive a science medal with a ribbon and an individualized certificate of
achievement.
Parents are also welcome to come
on the stage for photographs.
Since the exhibitors put a lot of
work into their projects, I encourage the audience to applaud them individually
immediately after they receive their award envelope.
