The objective of W.I.S.E. 2002 is
to provide a means by which home-schooled students can gain scientific
knowledge and improve their scientific abilities from year
to year. The science fair is the culmination of the students’ hard work—an
opportunity to share their knowledge with others and to learn from
what other students have done.
The focus of W.I.S.E. 2002 and future
science fairs is on individual achievement and progress from year to year,
not competition with other students. A
Certificate of Achievement (indicating the student’s achievement level) will
be given to every qualifying student at the awards ceremony. Each type of project (collection, model, and
experiment) will have ten different achievement levels based upon the scoring
of the project.
The family entry form will provide
the opportunity to indicate an interest in a locally available science fair
preparation course.
