W. I. S. E.  2001

Wonders of the Imagination Science Exhibition

Prizes

Each winner will receive a ribbon, an award certificate, and a  prize certificate, as follows:

W.I.S.E. Award – 50 points

Branch of Science Award – 40 points

Grade Level First Place – 30 points

Grade Level Second Place – 20 points

Grade Level Third Place – 10 points

A student may win more than one award.

The prize certificates can be used to purchase prizes from each of three categories:

1. On-site prizes,

2. Magazine subscriptions, and

3. Science supplies from the Schoolmasters Science catalog.

Exhibitors and their families may view the on-site prizes (located on the stage behind the registration area) during the time for setting up their project.  A table near the hall entrance has sample copies of magazines and catalogs that both exhibitors and guests may take. Another table has display copies of magazines and catalogs.  Exhibitors may subscribe to most of these magazines by using the order form.  Several magazines are available at special reduced prices.  This table also has a display copy of the Schoolmasters Science catalog from which exhibitors may order science supplies by using the order form.  The order form must be used within two weeks after the science fair.  This form is displayed on the wall with the identifying sign, “Sample Order Form.”  Exhibitors received a copy of the order form and the Schoolmasters Science catalog when they registered.

Each point on the prize certificate is generally worth $1.00 or more when the student purchases on-site prizes.  Each point is worth fifty cents when the student purchases magazine subscriptions and/or science supplies from the Schoolmasters Science catalog using the order form.

If winners want to purchase an on-site prize, they may purchase one prize (from all the remaining prizes) immediately after receiving their award and prize certificates.  If parents wish to help their younger children make their selection, they may do so.  Award winners who wish to purchase additional on-site prizes remaining after the awards ceremony may do so by using their prize certificates.  The prizes will be sold one at a time in the same order as the awards were given.

Award winners will be recognized in the following sequence:

W.I.S.E. award

Branch of science awards, in the order of the number of projects entered in that branch—

Biology (25), Earth and Environmental Science (16), Physics (12), and Chemistry (9)

First place winners, beginning with the upper grade levels

Second place winners, beginning with the upper grade levels

Third place winners, beginning with the upper grade levels

The reason that the upper grade levels get to choose their prizes first is that students in lower grades will later have the same opportunity as they progress through the grades.

Award winners are encouraged to send a note of thanks to the company or other organization that contributed their prize.

See the other side for a list of the on-site prizes.
