Moongate Supper Club

Would you like a regular break from cooking for one or two and then eating alone?  Then consider joining the Moongate Supper Club.  On Monday evening, January 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the All Purpose Room, Bill Werner, a Moongate volunteer, will meet with Moongate residents who would occasionally like to share an informal evening meal here together.  At this meeting, Bill will ask for your ideas on the following questions:

·       How often would you like to share an evening meal?

·       What day of the week would be good?

·       What time of day (such as 6:00 p.m.) would be good for you?

·       Would you rather have a potluck, a meal brought in, or both on different evenings?

The main advantage of a potluck is that very little advance planning would be required.  Anyone who wanted to participate on a particular evening could just show up with his or her contribution of food.  The main disadvantages would be that there would be no particular entrée (such as Moongate now provides for the monthly noon potlucks) and the contributed food could be all of one type—desserts, for example!  Of course, the potlucks could be better planned, with everyone signing up to bring a particular type of food, such as casseroles, vegetables, salads, drinks, breads, and desserts.

The main advantage of a meal brought in would be that no one would need to cook!  The main disadvantages would be the matter of handling the finances to pay for the meals and specifying, at least three days in advance, what each person wants to order.

For example, at a price of $5.99 per person (minimum ten people) and a $5.00 total delivery charge, Boston Market would provide each person with your choice of entrée (rotisserie chicken, turkey, ham, or meatloaf), cornbread, and two side dishes (mashed potatoes, corn, creamed spinach, macaroni and cheese, garlic and dill new potatoes, stuffing, rice pilaf, sweet potato casserole, butternut squash, hot cinnamon apples, green beans, fresh steamed vegetables [mixture], cole slaw, cranberry walnut relish, tortellini salad, or Caesar salad).  Boston Market would also provide the plates, utensils, and napkins.  We would serve the food buffet style.  Of course, we could supplement the Boston Market food with our own drinks and desserts.

If this interests you, be sure to come to the meeting on Monday evening, January 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the All Purpose Room, and let Bill know your ideas about the Moongate Supper Club.
