Back To The Future
Chevette Scene for scene, line for line, Back To The Future is in me. I was first exposed to the series in 1986. Little 6 year-old Johnny was quiet as a mouse, intregued by the DeLorean, the crazy scientist and the cool 17-year old. I was Marty McFly. I have the trilogy on VHS, and I got the DVD on Christmas, 2002. I got my first copy of part one when it came on TV, and I've watched the movie at least three times a year ever since. That means I've watched Back To The Future at least 30 times. I'm sure it's more.. much more.. about 60. Start a line.. any line, I'll finish it...and the next line.. and the next scene...
Shawshank Redemption
Chevette Have you ever sat to watch a movie, and somewhere along the way you realise that you are experiencing something beyond a simple movie? Back in 2000 I was introduced to The Green Mile by a friend at work. I thought that was a high-quality movie. When I returned with my comments, my friend said ".. yeah that was alright but watch this..." and so I took the video home. I now own the DVD. It was the first DVD I ever owned. The unfortunate thing about this movie is that it was released around the same time as Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction. It got rocked in the theatre by those movies, but in rentals it really shone. I highly reccommend this movie to anyone. It is a powerful piece of work.
The Rock
Cutlass Supreme Before I get ribbed for liking this movie because it shares its name with my favorite WWE wrestler, let me tell you that I was first exposed to this movie before that wrestler changed my life. This movie has absolutely nothing in common with Shawshank. It is on this list because it is my favorite action movie of all time. Cool, smart and very capable Sean Connery masters his role. Although many people are not too fond of Mr. Cage, I think he did a great job in this movie. This is the movie to watch when you want action, with a story of pride and national defense. Best description: Complete opposite of chick flick.
The Kevin Smith Genre
Alright, first and foremost, these movies are definitely not for the naive, close-minded, weak of heart or stomach. Kevin Smith blantantly expoits all the subjects that most people wouldn't approach with a 10 foot pole. His movies (that I am aware of to date) are: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. My personal opinion is that Mallrats is the funniest, and Chasing Amy is the most powerful. Chasing Amy could very well be one of the most intreguing and thought-provoking movies I have ever seen. Unfortunately ( as I think, anyway ) only a small audience can appreciate the Kevin Smith style and treat this movie with the respect it deserves.
Spider-Man
Reluctant "teen" becomes a superhero, impresses the girl and defeats the bad guy. That part connects with most of us; that inner desire to do something substantial. What makes this movie different is the tragedy that Peter Parker must endure to serve the greater good. I'm sure you've all seen it... $200 million can't be wrong.
