The dawn was pink as seashells as he headed down the roadside,
Where dry autumn cattails rustled softly in the breeze.
Dusty heard them whisper,
"Look ahead, little brother!"
And, looking up, he saw a little earthworm
On his knees.
Well, he'd-a BEEN on his knees, if he'd had him any legs.
As it was, he just wriggled in the grasses.
He cried as he searched,
"Now i'm blind as a birch!
Oh, WHY can't I hang on to my glasses??"

"Mr. Worm! Mr. Worm!", Dusty called out rather loudly.
"Wh-who's there??", cried the trembly little creature.
"I'm so sorry to have scared you,
But if trouble has impaired you,
I could help!
Hi, I'm Dusty! Glad to meet you."

"Errr, i hope you understand if i do not shake your hand,
Though I would if I HAD one!", the worm added quickly.
"But one minute, I'm relaxing in a lovely bubble bath,
And the next, flying off, and feeling sickly!

"So, I looked up to see what had got ahold of me.
It was a big ol' hungry bluejay who wanted company!
But who would go to brunch
With someone who wrecks your bath?
So, I wriggled 'til he lost his grip,
And fell right on this path!"

"Well, I'll go find your glasses.
You just dig down in the soil," Dusty said,
So the sun won't dry you out."
Baby Bug, take care of Worm,
And stay right here 'til I return.
I'll go down this bank, and have a look about."
