Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

14 September 2005: yesterday, while at school on break from my subbing chores, I began grieving about how overwhelmed I am, something I do a lot of. This time, though, I got mad at myself and gave myself a good talking to. The result was a 25-item list of things I had to do. A few minutes later, I was in the school library actually tackling one of the jobs, a variation on my Swedenberg mathemaku. All at once, I was working, ironically, on a job not on my list then (though it is now)--continuing my An Arithmepoetic Analysis of the Spectrum. This sequence, which so far consists of analyses of blue, red, yellow and violet, has just been published in Spore, No. 2.0, Crag Hill's continuation of Score, by the way. I've long wanted to at least add analyses of orange and green to it, but had very few or no ideas for them. Until yesterday.

Yesterday, in less than a half hour (compared with the months and even years each of the other four took), I had almost a full rough draft of an analysis of orange. I only had three images for the analysis of green, so stole one of them to finish the analysis of orange with. Its five multiplications, in order, are (1) "ring-a-leavio" times the dictionary definition of "orange," or DD, the continuing divisor of the poem, to get the dictionary definition of "games," which I plan to visually enhance by coloring some of its letters; (2) a detail in full color from my recentest addition to my The Long Division of Poetry times DD to get "the point where the truest poetry excedes truth"; (3) "Nero Wolfe's orchids" times DD to get "Bacchanals" (or maybe "remembrance of a red kite"); (4) Der Rosenkavalier times DD to get a small composition emulating Klee, with labeling; and (5) "Brooklyn Bridge" time DD to get "the invention of banking." The remainders involved are, respectively, "now," "2Fe," the composition emulating Klee minus labeling, and some kind of mathematical description now a mystery to me. The fifth remainder will be off the page--unless I think of something worth showing in part or whole.

I suspect I'll change two or three of its terms. I'm extremely happy at what I have, though, and that I got it done so quickly. Now, if I can only get so lucky with the one featuring green. (And continue getting jobs on my list done!)
