Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

31 August 2005: More about my terminology--but just a brief paragraph. I finally checked my Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and found that "eme" means "significantly distinctive unit of language structure." I vaguely thought it meant something a little like that but was surprised that it meant so nicely near-exactly what I want it to mean. It therefor makes all my recent "eme" neologisms as clear and reasonable as such words can be, it seems to me. "Texteme," for instance, is surely an appropriate term for "unit of language structure having to do with textual material, I should think. And "technipheme" for technical term having to do with language. Which brings me to an important UPDATE: I've changed "technipheme" to "techneme."
