Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

20 August 2005: Today, I must get my next column for Small Press Review done. So this will be a short entry, an announcement of two new Grummanisms: "engagent," which I made up three weeks ago and may already have mentioned here, and "parallelophemes," a locution which semantically repeats (in the process of parallelism as in many psalms and various passages of Whitman) and is thus a repeneme in my taxonomy. I hope the meaning of "engagent" is obvious. I'm close to making it my term of choice for indicating a person experiencing any culturework. One engaged with. The obvious probelm with it is that one making a culturework must be engaged with it while making it, but we have simple terms for him. So, I'm hoping my term will come to mean "passively engaged with." Even if not, its context, I'm confident, will generally cause it to mean that.

"En" can mean "go into." "Sumere" is Latin for "to take up." So could "ensume" work as "to go into or involve oneself with in order to take up or absorb?" I just thought of this word now. Maybe, I'll use "ensumer" instead of "engagent." (How about "ensumagent?" No, I'm not serious--I don't think.)
