Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

28 July 2005: For over a week, except for a couple of hours while I was on a narcotic pain-reliever, I've been in my null zone--perhaps deeper in it than ever before. I've gotten so little work done that it seems to me pointless to even try to get any done. Ergo, I've decided to try an experiment. I have ten more days off from substitute teaching; why not make them a True Vacation, or time when I neither go anywhere or do absolutely anything productive. I've never done that before. I've always at least made a daily blog entry or the equivalent--except when on the road. I think it will help not to have to do anything, because I'm one of those uptight people who feels he has a check-list of jobs he has to check something off on daily to be fit to live. I try to talk myself out of that attitude, but . . . Anyway, no more blog entries until 8 August 2005. I'm not even going to make diary entries till then, or do anything else except eat, drink, sleep, visit the bath room, play tennis (and maybe shoot baskets), market when absolutely necessary, bring in the mail, put out the garbage once or twice and bring the empty garbage cans back in, feed my cat Shirley twice a day, and pay the bills I have to. I'll answer the phone, but not reply to e.mails, or keep up with Internet discussions I may be in. Shall I shave? I think I will. My beards itch too much. I'll brush my teeth at least once a day, too. Maybe on the last day I'll mow the lawn. I probably won't decide until then.

Ah, dear friends, I hope you survive the long absence of my blog entries!!!
