Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

9 July 2005: Looks like my neighborhood will avoid the latest hurricane though we're getting a lot of rain, and some minor windiness. I'm snug enough but perhaps not reacting well to it below the cerebrum, for I've been feeling crappy. Even Mountain Dew hasn't helped. Nonetheless, the past hour or so I've been playing with at Paint Shop. The same newspaper cut-outs are involved as the ones in yesterday's image.

As usual, I'm doing things I momentarily think are spectacular, but feeling most of the rest of the time inept. There have been times when I've sincerely thought posterity would really thank me for all this behind-the-scenes stuff, but now my big hope is that it will inspire for someone making good art to reveal his behind-the-scenes stuff. One thing I'll say for myself is that I'm really learning a lot about non-representational painting at Paint Shop--not so much about how to do it well as about what it is.

Okay, the details: the first image is of the cut-outs I've been working with--as randomly arranged on my scanner; the second is of what I did in the negative space of the first image (and maybe went too far with)--with the scraps I used in yesterday's image removed; the third is an excerpt from the second that I further messed with, but not quite getting exactly what I was hoping for. Not yet any hints of how to parlay any of these into mathemaku.
