22 May 2005: I've retreated--with close to maximal cowardice: I've removed "abruptly," which I liked as an abrupt discord, from my version of the Basho haiku, mainly because Geof Huth said it was the worst part of my effort. So my very safe version is now: 




          old pond;













                the sound 
               of a frog's

              splash-in

Announcement: on Tuesday, 24 May, I'm off to Boston in a rental car. I'll be gone nine or ten days. I'll probably post a few entries to this blog, but may miss some days.
