Daily Notes on Poetry & Related Matters

30 January 2005: Two more entries besides this one and I'll finish my first year blogging. Was it wasted effort? My impression is that I did write down a few thoughts I might not have if not for the blog. More important, it got me out to Paint Shop to make images to post, and I think some of them came out well. I'd credit this blog with a good ten or fifteen poems. That's enough for me to keep it going. A secondary benefit is that the blog has acted as a good storage space for my works. It's accessible, too, so I can send people to it if I want them to see what I'm doing.

It was not encouraging as a means of reaching people. Only ten people or so read my entries. That seems not to have changed from day one. The way to up visits would be simply to write about more known poets, and mention various drawing words like "sex" and "knight fork." But I'm not out to get halfwits to read me, just out to get the ten rhousand or so people I continue to believe would enjoy reading me if they knew about me. (That's one in three thousand Americans, for the innumerates who might think I'm bragging.)

Not that winning any audience was ever my primary goal here. I just wanted to force myself to do or discuss poetry daily. I haven't even done that, but I've come close enough. So, if my health holds out, I'll be putting in another year.

I haven't decided yet whether to make the changes I spoke of a few days ago, by the way. I won't for a while, if I go ahead with them.
