Daily Notes on Poetry

20 October 2004. It's around 10:30 in the morning. I've been working on a collage for a mathemaku following the procedure I'm going to tell the Miami teachers about. The collage is below, with the words that I'll use with it in the finished work. "castle" is my divisor, "dictionary," my quotient, and "swum moonlight," my remainder. All these came to me last night in bed, "castle being a random "potent" verbal image, "dictionary being an apt counter-image, I thought, and "swum moonlight" coming out of nowhere. The latter led to my deciding to have a "poetic" dividend that the product under it would be a rectilinear, perhaps balck&white version of. Adding "swum moonlight" to the latter would make it into the faery image. . . .
