3 August 2004. Just two announcements today. The first is that two of the mathemaku I made at Paint Shop and discussed and posted here are now also at The Melic Review. (Note: this URL will no longer work when the next issue of the magazine is published, but you should still be able to find my poems after clicking to it.) The other announcement is that I'm starting off to Norwalk, Connecticut, in a rental car early tomorrow morning. A high school class reunion with side-trips to siblings. I'll be gone a week, so may make some of my next few entries late.
I was pleased with the way my pieces look at The Melic Review--and that the editors there asked for them. Poetry Editor Jim Zola picked them out of the ones at my blog. They're among my favorites--and very much go together, as I don't think I realized when I made them.
Some of my vizpo friends have suggested that they've been treated as "mere illustrations," and it is true that I was not listed as one of the poets contributing to the issue, something I caught before the issue was officially posted but decided not to complain about. I was amused, and don't mind the low profile. To me, the "cover illustration" makes up for any "disrespect." Any sucker going to the site will have to see it, and some might actually think about it enough to realize that it's more than an illustration. Meanwhile, it's always nice to get published.
