Daily Notes on Poetry

12 July 2004. Here I end my three-part entry on "3 Into 7" with a presentation of the complete poem:

I've been thinking a lot lately about making mathemaku that can serve to introduce what I'm up to as a mathematical poet. This one, therefore, is a variation on a straight-forwoard third- or fourth-grade long division example. Added is my standard theme concerning the medium and message. I don't go with McLuhan's "the medium is the message," but do believe that the medium can strongly influence the message. In this case, the medium is typography, the message numerical values. Mainly, though, it's all a game that I hope will be fun for all concerned.
