Daily Notes on Poetry

21 April 2004. When I posted my poetry taxonomy essay from Modern Haiku the other day, I deleted one line from it which I just now put back in. It was: "A similarly fine specimen of a fusional infraverbal pwoermd/haiku is (Jonathan) Brannen's 'oceon,' which I will not comment further on." I deleted it because I no longer understood the point of Jonathan's poem! Previously, I had thought its point too obvious to need comment--and had written about the poem in glowing terms somewhere, so clearly thought it worthy of being in my essay. This time it took Geof Huth, of all people, to explain it to me! (Clue below.)

Meanwhile, it reminded me that I had always attributed the similar powermd, "nocean," to Jonathan Brannan, but some weeks or months ago Geof and I failed to find where Jonathan used it, so it may be . . . mine! I hope so, but I doubt it.

Clues: e    o    n,

and for mine, consider pronunciation of "nocean."

Announcement: my outfit, The Runaway Spoon Press, has just released Ampersand Squared, an/thology of pwoermds, edited by Geof Huth. perfectbound, 92 pages, 5.5 inches wide, 4.25 inches high; nice paper; ridiculous price (ppd) of $10, from Bob Grumman, 1708 Hayworth Road, Port Charlotte FL 33952. See upcoming entry in Geof Huth's blog for more details.
