USE OF FINISH JUDGES by Paul Jenkins

The latest version of the FINA rule book does not define the function of the Finish Judges and that the placing of the swimmer is to be a direct function of the swimmers final time. As a result the National Officials Committee have determined this position is to be terminated. Finish Judges are to be no more. The referee only is required to "sweep" and determine light touches or malfunctions. As mentioned the final position is to be a direct result of the final time. This is regardless of whether electronic or manual timing is in use. This system is not affected by the number of Timekeepers, i.e.remains the same if two or three Timekeepers per lane is used
