Battling Nelson, a tiger with a vicious wallop

Battling Nelson, former lightweight champion, was a fighter who used a peculiar style for scoring a kayo and it was mighty effective, too. Give and take was his motto. He was a tiger with a vicious wallop.
The instant he heard the gong, he was relentless in his pursuit of his prey. His object in all attacks was to get his head on the shoulders of an opponent and then bang away at the body. When broken in a clinch, he got back like a flash and again pounded away. Jabs and sidestepping and speed all failed before the Dane and crossing him did not keep him off. "Bat" pounded them into submission.
