Patrick Roy - Odds and Ends

Roy's Upperdeck card

Personal Superstitions

- Patrick has been known to talk to his two goalposts during a game, especially after they

make a save for him. (DING!)

- Skates from the crease up to the blueline, turns around, looks at his net and skates back

towards it at full speed, turning to the corner at the last second. Patrick said "When I do that,

it makes the net seem smaller. It's pure superstition".

- Between periods Patrick bounces a puck off the floor of the dressing room.

What a Draft!

- Patrick was Montreal's 4th pick (51st) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. The first pick

(5th Overall) was used to grab Petr Svoboda, second pick (8th) nabbed Shayne Corson

while Montreal's third selection was Stephane Richer (29th). No wonder they won the

Stanley Cup two years after.

What a Trade!

- On November 4, 1983 Montreal traded defenceman Robert Picard to the Winnipeg Jets for

their 3rd pick in the 1984 Draft. That draft choice turned out to be the 51st pick and the Habs

picked Patrick Roy.

Off The Ice

- Patrick has been an avid hockey card collector since he was ten.

The Conn Smythe

- Patrick Roy was the youngest winner of the MVP for the NHL Playoffs when he led the Habs

to the Stanley Cup in 1986 at the tender age of 21.
