Get good grades in school, so you can get a good job, so you can make enough money to support yourself and your family. If you have a job that you enjoy, that's great. But your purpose in working is not to enjoy yourself, it is to make enough money to support yourself & your family.
Be early. Make sure you understand why you're doing something before you do it, then you'll do a better job of it. Do the best that you can the first time. Make decisions that will be good for the company - not for yourself, personally.
Be nice. Your co-workers become like another family. They may like you - or not. Just be nice and don't expect anything in return.
Get better at your job than you have to be. Be faster, more efficient, and more eager to learn than you have to be.
Time is money. Don't waste time at work, because it is just like "taking money."
Don't just ask your boss "Is there anything else I can do?" Ask if you can do something specific. "Can I do that for you?" It shows your boss you want to help and that you know how to help.
Become the person at work that can be relied upon to do anything. Be that person and you will be the first one to be promoted.
