I am your father not an ATM
This is all about being a parent
Subject #4 School
Get good grades so you can get accepted to a good high school. Get good grades in high school so you can get accepted to a good college. Get good grades in college so you can get a good job. This is what we have been drilling into your heads since you started school.
Get good grades right away during the first quarter, so that the teachers will always think of you as one of the "good students." Then if things go wrong, they will give you the benefit of the doubt. If you have a problem, talk to your teacher first. They are there to help you, not punish you. Tell the truth always. We will always back you up.
School is more than that. School is where you can make mistakes without fear. You will learn from your classmates as well as your teachers. You will learn about life in your extra-curricular activities. You will grow as a human being. You entered school as a 5 year old with virtually no experience, and you will graduate as an adult with experiences that you learned OUTSIDE the classroom.
You will make friends that will last a lifetime. You will have your first encounters with the opposite sex. You will start to make decisions on your own, without parental supervision. You will learn the consequences of your actions not only affect you, but affect those around you, and even affect people you don't know.
You will find that you have a passion for types of literature, and music. You will grow deeper in your faith in God. All of these things will happen as a product of going to school. Keep your eyes open and try things that make you stretch beyond what you think you can do. This is REAL education. We will guide you and support you, but in the end what you learn is up to you.
