Game 1 - v. rural metro

starting off with a good first inning always helps. scoring 5 runs (3 on a homerun by jake "the snake" roeland) had the team on a roll. but, as it seems to always be, it was a game of highs and lows. after our great start, it seemed we could not stop them from getting on base. then, their 5 hitting popped up to shawn at catcher. hitter 6 had an infield fly which shawn also scooped up. on that same play, a running tried to come home, but shawn got the tag. second inning, well, it went quickly because no one on either team got a hit.

third inning, you came alive again with pete and joe (joe-bob to his friends) hitting back-to-back home runs. 4 more runs for the good guys recorded. everyone took a little nap while attempting to hit, as no more hits were gotten until the 7th inning. but, to add some excitement, rural metro's catcher stepped in on rich's swing and may have ended up with a broken elbow. dave laveck started off the 7th with a solid hit to left field. even with a bum leg, he got a good hit to start off the inning. top of the order came through with everyone getting on base. in a decision made many times that night, the other team decided to intentionally walk rich champlin. (they walked him twice already "unintentionally"). only this time, they intentionally walked in a run instead of letting rich hit. jake "the snake" came back up and smacked out a grand-slam. good guys 14, rural metro 6.

Game 2 - v. mercury print

still on a post game victory high, the first inning of game 2 didn't go well with 3 long pop flies. mercury print came to play, and banged in 6 runs, before an odd play by doug dumont. dough snagged a ball at first, but it was rules a trap. so, he went and tagged the base to get the hitter out. he also tagged the runner for the double play to get us out of a bad inning. second inning, this team decided to intentionally walk rich again. jake and pete followed with good base hits. joe rotolo slammed another solid base hit and got an RBI. bob had a sac fly to bring in our second run. least there be no medical excitement in this game, m.p.'s short decided to throw his shoulder out. after rolling around in pain, he popped it back in and the game resumed. it was 8-2 after 2, and it didn't look good for our team. but strong fielding only allowed them one more run the entire game. in the top of the 4th, they actually let rich hit, and he banged out a triple. jake brought him home on a sac fly and upped our score to 3. the bats came back to life in the 6th and 7th inning. 3 runs in the 6th from doubles from andrew zibuck and jake roeland (intentional walk for rich in between) and a single from pete brought in 2 runs. bob hit a sac fly to bring in the 3 run of the inning, bring the score to 6-9. top of the 7th started with big dave wong pulling out a double when we needed it. andersen, dumont and zibuck all got on base with solid hits bringing the score to 8-9. rich drew another walk, and jake made the sac fly to tie the score by bringing in doug. pete drew a walk, also, and up came joe. joe got a solid hit into left field, and andrew took off from third sliding under the tag at home to put the good guys up by one. not wanting his efforts to go to waste, joe had a big defensive inning in the bottom of 7 to make 2 of the 3 final outs to close the game. good guys 9, mercury print 8. 1
