Moe is great and he’s on our side. Some of you might have worked with a distant cousin of his, DocuMoe, but last night Moe was cheering us on. We played a team that beat us pretty badly the first time we played.
Actually, we beat them the way they beat us the first time around by wanting the win and getting it done at top of 7. It was a defensive battle and positioning in the field that gave us the win. With Rich directing the positioning of the outfielders and the confidence displayed by all our outfielders we were able to squelch any hopes of a come back by Rural Metro (5-2 now). It was a tight battle the whole game, and a very late game for that matter as we started the game a little after 10 and didn’t finish the game until 11:30. Once again I lost the coin toss (or more precisely the other team called it correctly) but we drew blood first when Anderson, beat out the throw at first to start us off… (momentary lapse in memory until top of 7) when Don doubled in the gap which brought in Joe, unfortunately Joe wasn’t able to get on base which lead to Champlin to bat (they had the galled to walk him because he had a couple of dinger and triples?) That lead them to the injured Biffer (Zibuck) who took the first ball pass the right field fence but just out of the line. The 2nd pitch came and he doubled off nicely to center field (could of gotten a home run but alas, his ailing health prevented him to come in) Anywho, we stacked couple of more runs before it was their final turn to bat. The leadoff was a weak hitter, who grounded to 2nd, as coincident would have it, that’s my position, it was a soft ground ball which I should of gotten but somehow, I was pondering what it was like to be a pinball machine bumper as the ball richochet off my chest and the runner was able to make it safe at 1st. Couple of batters later and with 2 outs, they had their number 4 hitter on. General Champlin came to me and asked, do you want to walk this guy? Of which I said, yup, he looked at me like I didn’t speak english, or maybe he just thought my hair looked like a rug that night, I’m not sure, but he said, okay, it’s your call. We walked #4 and me thinks the other team were a little ticked, but that’s alright, I had confidence in my team and we wanted this win Their last batter hit a nice high fly to Steve MacLean for the final out and hence ended their game and gave us four consecutive wins in a row. I love winning Momentums don’t you?
Way to go guys!
