This event goes on a very scenic route around the Elan Valley (some pictures of the scenes you will encounter to follow) on a single lap starting from the Leisure Centre in Rhayader, and doing two small laps in toen before heading out of town on the old Aberystwyth Road up a steep hill beforer following an undulating course round the rest of the Dams (excluding Claerwen).
This race has become one of the premier pre marathon events in England and Wales attracting competirorsfrom all over the British Isles.
On the same day we also cater for the younger enthusiast and those adults who do not wish to run such a great distance. In the morning children over 7 and under 11 (Junior School) can enter the 1 mile race,Boys at 10.45 and Girls at 11.05. Then there is a 3 mile run for all others over 11 and under 17 which takes the place of the Individual Races in previous years.For all smaller races both children and adults will be bussed to the start. After the main Race which goes out 1.00 p.m. Senior men and Women are then taken to the 5 mile marker for a 1.30 p.m start for the final race of the day, which gets back in time to cheer runners of the main race in.
There is a large prize field, although competitors who have been back many years (many do return) say they run just for the scenery and cheerful ambience (You have to see it to believe it).
