The battle of conference power houses proved to be a great one. With Stevens Point picked as the conference favorite Marshfield wanted to prove everyone wrong. Marshfield got out of the blocks first in the 200 Medley Relay. The race was dead even through the first three swimmers until Gene Chyou put it away pulling a full body length ahead of SPASH. The team of Chyou, John Welch, Aaron Cummings and Eric Swanson were victorious. The rest of the meet Marshfield was ahead by only two points going into the 200 Free Relay. With the Tigers needing a first place finish to allow a little breathing room the relay team of Alex Larson, Kyle Swanson, Eric Swanson and Dennis Evert came through. With Stevens Point leading by a body length after the first hundred Kyle Swanson caught up pulling dead even with Point. Eric Swanson anchoring the really surged ahead to defeat SPASH for a much needed victory. Two events later in the 400 Free Relay there was another nail bitter. Gene Chyou started off the relay staying even with Point. The race stayed even through Alex Larson and John Welch. Aaron Cummings achored the really pulling out the victory in the final 25 yards defeating SPASH for the third relay win. In the 200 Free John Welch placed second with Eric Swanson coming in third.Aaron Cummings won the 200 I.M. with Dennis Evert coming in third and Eric Harrington placing fifth. Gene Chyou placed second in the 50 Free with Alex Larson coming in third and Eric Harrington placed fourth. In the 100 Fly Adam Hulke placed third Kyle Swanson was fourth with Dustin Jacobson placing fifth. Alex Larson placed second in the 100 Free and Gene Chyou was third and Jamasie Washburn came in fifth. In the 500 Free John Welch was touched out for first place. Welch was second, Eric Swanson third and Eric Kling placed fourth. Cummings placed first in the 100 Back, Dennis Evert third and Ben Gilinski placed fifth. Dennis Evert was second in the 100 Breaststroke, Ian Marks third and Dustin Jacobson placed sixth. Marshfield defeated SPASH 91-79. Marshfield will take on Rhinelander next Thursday in Rhinelander. |
