Senior State

The Marshfield Sharks competed at Senior State this weekend in Eau Claire.  The Sharks had a couple national qualifying times through out the meet.  The 200 Freestyle Relay qualified after missing the cut two weekends in a row by about .02 seconds. The relay team of Anne Melvin, Mahriah Alf, Krista DeJarlais and Krista Melvin all split about 25.50 to easily qualify.   The 200 Free Relay was just one of a few the girls have qualified in for Nationals. The same relay team won the 200 Free , 400 Medley, and the 400 Free Relay .  Aaron Cummings also had national cuts in the 100 Back and 200 Back. Cummings missed the 200 I.M. cut by .03 seconds. Cummings won the 100 Back, 200 Back, 200 I.M. and the 1650 Free for Marshfield. Mahriah Alf had a tremendous meet winning the 100 Breast in a time of 1:10.64, 200 Breast in 2:33.63, the 200 I.M. in 2:17.07 and the 400 I.M with a time of 4:57.90 to lead the girls.  Krista Melvin won the 200 Free with a time of 2:01.22. Krista was third in the 200 Back in 2:18.81. Even without a taper many swimmers were able to break personal best times.  Anne Melvin had a  best time  and team record in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:02.86. Anne was third in the 100 Free, 50 Free and 200 Free. Krista DeJarlais had a time of 2:25.34 in the 200 Back.  For the first time she swam the 1650, she was third with a time of 20:00.78 and sixth in the 50 Free with a time of 25.95.  Michelle Uthmier swam the 200 Back in 2:25.56 for a top ten finish.  John Welch placed fourth in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:31.24 which was also a new team record. He  placed second in the mile with a time of 19:12.36, and in the 100 Breast he swam a 1:07.26. Erinn Bruhn was the youngest swimmer to place in the top ten when she swam a 2:49.93 in the 200 Breast.  One of the highlights of the meet was when the  400 Free relay team of Alf, Krista and Anne Melvin, and DeJarlais smashed the meet record with a time of 3:45.71. The Marshfield girls placed fourth as a team and the  guys placed sixth. There were 13 teams at the meet. Green Bay won the meet for girls and guys.  All together Marshfield had an amazing 13 first place finishes and 41 top ten finishes. The Sharks will be in Chippewa Falls for Sectionals on the 17,18 and 19 of March.
