Tigers Headed to Madison

The Tigers Competed at sectionals this past weekend.  Mahriah Alf had a spectacular night. In her first event of the night Alf placed second in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:13.76 behind Cahoy of Hudson who had a time of 2:13.70. Alf dropped a second off her best time after dropping two seconds the week before at conference. In the next event Krista DeJarlais would swim the 50 free. After two girls on either side of her disqualified DeJarlais was all alone in the middle of  the pool. Krista placed second with a time of 25.88 being beaten by a competitior in lane one.  In her next event Krista swam the 100 free. She came in third with a time of 56.06 just barely above last years state cut. Krista had to wait until sunday to find out if she qualified for the state meet. The wait was worth it though as she qualified in the 50 and the 100. In the 100 Breast the final individual event of the night Mahriah had one more chance to become sectional champion.  The race was close the first 75 between four girls. But on the final turn Mahriah moved ahead by half a body length and then pulled away to finish one second ahead of the next competitor with  a time of 1:09.88. The 400 Free Relay finished the night off right after being considered a long shot for qualifing for state. The relay team of Mahriah Alf, Krista DeJarlais, Dana Hoehn, and Michelle Uthmier qualified with a time of 3:53.54. Coach Dave Scheuer was very happy with the nights performance," The girls swam well. All of Mahriah splits in the 200 I.M. were her best ever. And in the 100 Breast she hit everyone of her turns perfectly. Krista also swam very well. All of her times were close to her best. Its hard to stay calm after a false start like that in the 50 free. Krista stayed focused and swam well.  As for the 400 Free relay, well that was a total surprise to me. The team wanted to get a relay down to state really bad. They pulled through and qualified. What we have been doing in practice is starting to work and the girls can see it. We are going to stick with the taper and the girls will drop even more time." Good luck and swim fast!!!
