Bill Davis, a member of the Ohio State staff since 1984, was appointed Director of Athletic Training in 1995. He oversees all aspects of the athletic training program and is responsible for all 34 varsity sports at OSU. He also serves as head trainer for the Ohio State football team.
In his position, Davis works closely with the OSU medical staff, particularly head team physician John Lombardo.
Davis is from Carrollton, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State in 1979 with a degree in health education. As an undergraduate, he spent four years on the training staff, working with a wide variety of different sports.
Following his graduation from Ohio State, Davis was a graduate assistant trainer for two years at Oklahoma State. He received his master's degree in education administration from Oklahoma State in 1981 and immediately went to work for the Cowboys as an assistant trainer, working primarily with the football program.
In 1984, Davis returned to Ohio State as assistant football trainer. In 1992, he was named co-head trainer and took over the administrative duties of the training program. In June of 1995, he was named to his present position and now oversees a staff that includes four other full-time trainers and a large number of students.
Davis belongs to the National Association of Athletic Trainers and the Ohio Association of Athletic Trainers.
