Temple Owls
December 14, 2000

Here are the game grades:

Andy Kowske: B
Due to the matchup zone, Kowske really wasn't involved with the offense much (5 garbage points). However, he did a solid job on the glass and held his own with Lyde and Rollerson, even when Soderberg stopped doubling Lyde, leaving Kowske on his own.

Charlie Wills: C
Drilled an early 3 but wasn't nearly as effective as Vershaw in the high post (2 turnovers in limited minutes). Rebounded well.

Roy Boone: B+
Boone shot the ball as well from the perimeter as he has in any game I can remember, hitting 5 of 8 from long range. He also did a solid job at point when Kelley had to sit down for a few minutes with foul trouble. On the downside, he didn't really create too much offense for his teammates and had 3 turnovers.

Kirk Penney: D+
Kirk's shot wasn't falling, he didn't have a rebound, and since he isn't a great defender, it is generally pretty hard for him to contribute. However, he moved the ball pretty well on offense in terms of making the extra pass on the perimeter, finishing with 4 assists without a turnover.

Mike Kelley: B
Forced the ball into the teeth of the defense early, leading to some turnovers, and ran into some foul trouble. However, he was a solid presence on the offensive end in terms of getting the ball where it needed to be, a key against a matchup zone (7 assists). He also nailed a clutch 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down. Kelley defended Greer for most of the game and held him to 5 of 14 shooting, with the 5 makes being well earned.

Mark Vershaw: B-
Vershaw is still struggling with his shot, especially from the perimter. However, his ball movement was key in beating the Temple defense. While he didn't get many assists, his ability to see the floor and get the ball to the other side of the defense before the defenders reacted was one of the keys in so many made triples. Mark also did a nice job of chasing down some long offensive rebounds.

Ricky Bower: A
Bower was the offensive key to the game, especially early, with his ability to spot up in the creases of the zone and hit the open jumper. Bower finished with 19 points. Like Vershaw, Bower also did a solid job of chasing down some offensive rebounds.
