Purdue Boilermakers
January 15, 2000

1/16 Update: Here are the game grades from yesterday's basketball game against Purdue:

Andy Kowske: A
Kowske rebounded with a solid game both offensively and defensively. Not only did he provide 16 points of tough garbage style points around the hoop to go with his 9 rebounds and 2 blocks, he also held McQuay and Allison to virtually nothing in terms of points OR boards.

Charlie Wills: F
Another dreadful offensive day for Wills as he was 0 for 3 from the field with 2 very bad turnovers. He also was one of the primary defenders of Cardinal, a matchup he could not handle from the perimeter.

Roy Boone: F
Did not make a shot (4 attempted) and turned the ball over 3 times. Roy has improved defensively but until he starts making some shots, he just isn't a valuable guy to have on the court at the present time.

Kirk Penney: A-
Got his first collegiate start and was the primary offensive threat, hitting on 50% of his shots on his way to 17 points. While some have typecast him as another Jon Bryant perimeter shooter, Penney has shown an affinity for getting to the hoop on dribble drive penetration. Turned the ball over twice which isn't too bad in 37 minutes of play, but only grabbed 3 rebounds. Not a bad start for what I forsee to be a major offensive influence on this team down the road.

Mike Kelley: C-
Kelley did a super job defensively on Cornell (as he always does), but was off offensively, committing an uncharacteristic 4 turnovers and missing 3 of 4 shots to go with 4 fouls. One of Kelley's poorer games to date.

Jon Bryant: D
Like Boone, Bryant is in an incredible shooting slump. Yesterday, he hit just one shot in his ever decreasing minutes.

Mark Vershaw: C-
Picked it up in the second half to get 12 points, but only got 8 shots as a result of not being able to establish postition down low. Also was eaten alive by Cardinal as Vershaw was unable (or unwilling) to step out on the shots at the arc.

Maurice Linton: D
Is he still on the team? No value at this point. Missed his only shot, grabbed 1 rebound.

Travon Davis: B
Showed a little spark with some nice assists on penetrating moves. Made his only shot and kept his turnovers down to 1.

Duany Duany: F
4 minutes, 2 fouls. I suppose this is a harsh grade for someone who played so little, but no production is no production.

Julian Swartz: F
Committed a bad charging foul and a foul in limited time. Shoot the jumper Julian!
