Penn State Nittany Lions
January 15, 2000

1/20 Update: Here are the game grades from yesterday's basketball game against Penn State:

Andy Kowske: F
Kowske spent the night in foul trouble, playing only 11 minutes. When he was in the game, he was ineffective for the most part, particularly on the boards and against Stephens.

Charlie Wills: C
Actually tried to step up and provide some offense, leading the team with 11 shots and hitting 4. Grabbed a team high 5 rebounds.

Roy Boone: F
Played just 7 minutes, going 1 for 4 with 3 turnovers. Confidence appears to be totally shot.

Kirk Penney: C
His shot wasn't falling and he fouled out. However, he did score 9 points and added a team high 4 assists. Still raw, but looks to be a threat both shooting AND putting the ball on the floor on dribble drive penetration.

Mike Kelley: D
Did a poor job defensively on the elder Crispin, including once again getting in foul trouble. Was his usual steady self on offense with a few modest contributions accross the board.

Jon Bryant: B
Seemed to shoot with a bit more confidence on his way to a team high 12 points. But, unlike some instances when Bryant is purely a shooting threat and nothing more, Jon also added 5 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals while maintaing good ball control.

Mark Vershaw: C
Vershaw is just having a hard time getting shots at the moment and is getting dominated on the glass. Hit some outside jumpers which hopefully bodes well for future games when pulling more physical players out of the paint might serve to open up his offensive game.

Maurice Linton: F
Is there a value lower than F? 4 turnovers in only 11 minutes Maurice did do a nice job on the boards, but you cannot turn the ball over once every 2 and a half minutes that you play. Also had a stupid foul on a bucket.

Travon Davis: D-
Didn't play horribly overall, but had two horrible horrible turnovers that are inexcusable for a point guard. Still can't shoot a lick, contrary to positive reports to the contrary this summer.

Duany Duany: F
Limited minutes, a turnover, missed shot. Can we now close the book on him? (Which of course means he will have a big game on Saturday).

Julian Swartz: C
Held his own but didn't really do a whole lot. I would like to see some more PT from Julian (how about Linton's 11 minutes + Duany's 9?).
