Ricky Bower: B
Gave the team a huge offensive lift in the first half by knocking down two jumpers when it appeared they could struggle to score double digits in the half. Ricky got the start in the second half, but OSU adjusted on Bower and took away his looks.
Andy Kowske: D-
Not much to say here that hasn't been said about Andy lately. He hit both of his shots on a couple of nice post moves, but played only 10 minutes due to foul trouble, a couple of which were less than wise fouls. He defended Johnson fairly well when he was in the game, but when you only play 10 minutes, it can't be considered an acceptable game. Also had 2 turnovers which is too many in limited time.
Charlie Wills: C
Wills didn't shoot the ball well, though at least most of his shots were solid looks. He did a fairly nice job on Johnson in terms of holding his position on the occasions that Johnson got the ball in the low post.
Roy Boone: B-
Boone's outside shot wasn't falling, which was especially problematic while OSU was in their zone defense. However, he did get to the line and hit a couple of tough bail out shots in the second half. Also of note was that he did not have a turnover for the first time in my recent memory, impressive especially considering that he spent a little time at the point. 6 rebounds from the guard position was needed. Defensively he saw some time on Brown and Darby and did a nice job on both.
Kirk Penney: B
Penney has been quite consistent since getting his minutes off the bench. Once again he hit a couple of second half three's that proved to be imperative.
Mike Kelley: C-
Like Kowske, Kelley was also limited by foul trouble. When he was on the court he did a great job of forcing Brian Brown into some out of control shots. He also was exceptional with his digs on Johnson, accounting for 4 steals in his limited time. Offensively he made some nice drives to the hole, though he just couldn't finish. He also made just 1 of 4 from the line and had an uncharacteristic 3 turnovers, all of which were pretty sloppy.
Mark Vershaw: C+
Vershaw was a little intimidated by Johnson inside, though scored on a couple of nice moves late in the first half when Johnson was on the bench. Adequate job on the glass (5 boards) and 3 assists in more of a supporting role.
Maurice Linton: B-
Linton's production per minutes played was pretty well overall, though he still didn't seem to get into the flow of the game. Mo took a couple of forced shots early against the OSU zone and lost some of his PT to Penney and Bower, but he offered some rebounding that the shooters cannot.
Travon Davis: C
Wasn't quite as steady as he had been against Iowa, though was an asset against OSU's occasional full court pressure. Travon missed his only jump shot and had only 1 assist vs. 2 turnovers.
Freddie Owens: INC
Dave Mader: B
Did very little in the boxscore to merit such a grade, but his contribution was very important within the context of the game. When Kowske had to sit down with his 3rd foul early in the second half, Mader provided some aggressive post defense on the interior. He picked up some fouls, but all were hustle fouls and were an effective deterrent. Mader also made his only 2 free throw attempts.
