Northwestern Wildcats

3/10 Update: Here are the game grades from the Big Ten tourney game against Northwestern.

Andy Kowske: B
A nice solid all around effort for Kowske. He was very strong on the glass with 9 rebounds in just 26 minutes. His interior defense was super as well, limiting the NW power players limited touches in the regular flow of the offense. Kowske also did a nice job of getting the ball in deeper than he has of late, on his way to 9 points.

Charlie Wills: C
Wills was overly physical at times leading to some holding fouls, but overall his defense was effective. Charlie hit a nice square up jumper, though missed two others from the perimeter.

Roy Boone: B
One of the game's key performers. Boone did not seem to be in line for much playting time early, though once it was apparent that he was going to make an impact, Boone played for large portions of the rest of the game. Boone hit two jump shots from the perimeter and was especially active on defense (with a couple blocks). Most importantly, he was a steadying influence on the court with Kelley out including short stretchs at the point, going the entire game without a turnover while also creating some free throw opportunities with aggressive drives.

Mike Kelley: B
Kelley was off to a solid start (including a nice penetrating drive) before leaving the game with a thigh bruise.

Jon Bryant: D
Once again, despite an early 3, Bryant's shot just wasn't falling, making it pretty hard for him to attain a passing grade. To me he seemed a bit unsure of himself regarding which shots to take as I thought he passed up a couple of good looks while shooting a few tough ones on the move.

Mark Vershaw: A
Another outstanding effort against the Cats as Vershaw shot 6 of 10 from the field on a wide array of post moves combined with open 3's. Vershaw did have a couple of forced passes, though with 5 assists it was an acceptable trade off. Mark also was very effective defensively against the inexperienced front line with solid interior position and 4 blocked shots.

Maurice Linton: C-
Mo didn't seem to have the same urgency as he has been playing with recently and it showed in his numbers as he missed his final 5 shots following his first make. Linton was only credited with one turnover, though there were a couple plays in which he was shaky, including one dropped pass on a breakaway that should have led to a bucket. Linton did a decent job with several contested rebounds and was a defensive presence at times with 3 blocks.

Travon Davis: A-
Pressed into action with Kelley's injury, Davis responded with perhaps his best game of the year. He played with control and a steadiness we have not always seen from Travon as he ran the offense smoothly and limited his out of control forays into the lane. The end results were 4 assists to only 1 turnover, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals in 21 minutes of play.

Duany Duany: F
Just seemed out of it as Duany didn't make a shot and never seemed in rhythm offensively.

Kirk Penney: F
Once again had trouble with ball control as he committed a team high 3 turnovers in just 7 minutes of play.
