Michigan State Spartans
March 11, 2000

3/13 Update: Here are the game grades from the Michigan State game on Saturday.

Andy Kowske: C
Didn't fare quite as well on the boards as I would have liked, though of course that is a tough matchup for any big man. Pushed a step or two out of his range down low offensively, hurting his shooting percentage. Limited by moderate foul trouble.

Charlie Wills: C+
Battled pretty tough inside in a few more minutes than he is used to. Outside shot wasn't falling but got a couple garbage hoopes inside.

Roy Boone: D+
Another poor shooting night for Roy, limiting his positive contributions. Has played better with the ball in terms of turnovers as of late.

Mike Kelley: B
Looked to shoot a bit more than usual and couldn't hit from the outside early, though did add 6 assist without a turnover so he did his share at getting the ball where it needed to be. Certainly did a respectable job defensively on Cleaves and later on Peterson, though with great players, a shutdown is just not realistic.

Jon Bryant: C-
Just can't get good looks against the great defensive teams. 1 for 3 is an ok percentage from 3, but given his inability to contribute much in other areas, he needs more shots.

Mark Vershaw: B-
Really had a tough time early on as he has all year against the physical Spartans, leading to a lot of forced shots. Got into a little bit of a rhythm as the game progressed, but any way you slice it, he had a tough day. Did a very very credible job on the glass and continued his fine passing (5 assists-0 turnovers).

Maurice Linton: D
Had some early trouble finding Peterson on defense and after the first bucket of the game, wasn't able to hit anything.

Travon Davis: C
Was steady but unspectacular in limited time.

Duany Duany: C-
While Doc needs to provide offense when he is out on the court, I thought he looked to shoot a bit too often, especially a key force just when the Badgers had a chance to really make the game tight. Hit for 10 points in only 18 minutes, but only shot 3 for 10.

Kirk Penney: C
His shot is looking better lately.
