Here are the game grades from Wednesday's basketball game against Maryland:
Andy Kowske: C-
Kowske was plagued by foul trouble and had trouble finishing against the big Maryland front line (2-8 FG). He did negate/control the Terrapin interior game however and held his own on the board.
Charlie Wills: A
Aside from his usual spark of energy, Wills was an effective offensive threat, finishing with 15 points on solid 4-6 shooting (5-6 from the line). Wills did a nice job of squaring up and taking the open perimeter shot within the flow of the offense.
Roy Boone: D
Boone was a little reckless with the ball and struggled from the perimeter on offense. He was active on defense though and was a solid presence on the glass from the guard position.
Kirk Penney: C
Penney scored 18 points, but it still took him 15 shots. However, his shot looked like it was coming around.
Mike Kelley: A
12 assists to 1 turnover pretty much says it all. Throw in 6 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 3 steals, 45 minutes played, and a virtual shut down of Juan Dixon and you have about as strong a game as a point guard can play.
Dave Mader: B
Mader competed hard against some tough inside players, gathering 5 boards in 9 minutes. He had some fouls and didn't have much success offensively, but he gave the team some valuable minutes.
Mark Vershaw: B
Although he didn't shoot the ball all that well and didn't much care to assert himself in the post, Vershaw was a key factor in the game as he ran the offense from the high post and delivered 4 assists to go with solid ball movement. Mark also made all 8 of his free throws.
Ricky Bower: B
Bower became effective once Maryland went zone on defense, giving Ricky some room to shoot the ball, which he did to the tune of 9 points off the bench. While not a great defender, he is proving to be a smart defender that isn't the liability I thought he might be.
