Here are the game grades:
Mark Vershaw: B
Vershaw played a nice solid all-around game. In particular, he did a fantastic job of distributing the ball, finishing with 6 assists, 5 of them in the first half. His passes were crisp and decisive throughout the game and was a key Badger component on offense. He only took 6 shots, but hit 3 of them, including a couple of contested shots that he doesn't usually make. Defensively, he was solid on the glass but drew Worley for much of the game, a matchup that really put Mark on the spot on the perimeter. Despite sagging off Worley, Vershaw was still beat off the dribble a couple of times.
Andy Kowske: B
While he was out there, Kowske was very effective. While he was getting double team help, Kowske still did a good job of preventing Evans from catching the ball down deep. Along with Wills, he also limited Evans' work on the offensive glass, holding him to only 1 offensive board for the game. Offensively Kowske showed off a nice array of inside moves while shooting 4-4. The big downside to his game was the fact that he only played 16 minutes due to foul trouble, though in his defense he once again was hit with some shaky foul calls.
Charlie Wills: B+
As already mentioned, Wills gave a great effort on the defensive end, bodying up Evans and keeping him far enough out on the court, allowing the double teams to arrive quickly. His minutes were quality all the way through as Charlie finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds, and a pair of assists to go with his solid defensive play.
Roy Boone: C+
Boone once again gave up a few long three's early in the game and had trouble himself connecting from long range. However, for the game Roy really did a nice job on Oliver, contesting everything after those initial shots and keeping his penetration from getting all the way to the basket on most occasions. He was off his offensive game (2 turnovers to go with poor shooting), but still finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds.
Kirk Penney: B+
Penney was instant offense again, hitting for 19 points (though the box only credited him with 17) on a variety of perimeter shots mixed in with some nice interior cuts and some mid range jumpers. He also hit 2 clutch free throws down the stretch (and seems to have ended any doubt about his ability to make shots from the charity stripe).
Mike Kelley: A
Took Boyd right out of the game (1-5) on defense to go along with his 2 steals. Offensively, he contributed 7 points on a 3 and a couple great cuts to the basket. He really seems to be as comfortable as I have seen him with his jump shot at the moment. Add 3 assists without a turnover and you have a complete game.
Ricky Bower: INC/D
To be honest, I didn't see any of the game when he was in, though 2 fouls in 3 minutes isn't good and the fact that he didn't get any shots tells you something.
Maurice Linton: C
Wasn't much of a factor either way. Linton hit a couple of mid-range jumpers but had trouble from long range. Did not grab a rebound nor was he a factor on defense.
Travon Davis: D
Missed all three shots after ill-advised drives to the hoop. Did fine against Oliver for the most part, though did allow a late drive and score.
