2/24 Update: Wow! What a gut check for the basketball Badgers. One could just feel the season slipping away, and yet this team that couldn't hit a shot, couldn't get a call, down by double digits, on the road, with the end of year staring in them in the face, somehow finds a way to keep battling on the defensive end until the offense comes around, pulling out a critical victory.
Here are the game grades:
Andy Kowske: B
Once again, Kowske was pretty active inside and did a nice job of keeping Jaacks off of the glass. Another solid game for Kowske.
Charlie Wills: B
I thought Wills forced some shots early, but his aggressive play kept him in the game until the second half when he hit some absolutely critical shots, including a "3" that could have been THE play of the game.
Roy Boone: B
Didn't play much for some reason but supplied some early offense on some tough semi-drives. Boone was also solid on the glass and did a decent job on Oliver.
Kirk Penney: D
Played briefly and enough to miss two tough shots.
Mike Kelley: B-
Struggled early with missed jumpers and a charging call but was a settling influence offensively in the second half, handling the pressure flawlessly as well as shutting down Oliver for most of the second half.
Jon Bryant: C
Hit a key "3" which tied the game but had a tough time getting shots once again and couldn't knock them down when he did. Jon has improved his defense quite a bit and is not the liability he once was.
Mark Vershaw: B-
Totally out of it early with forced shots and turnovers, but really got the team going with some nifty passes (5 assists) followed by some critical buckets in crunch time.
Maurice Linton: C
Turnovers were a problem again but like Bryant, hit a clutch 3-pointer late in the game. Maurice did a nice job on the glass with 7 rebounds.
Travon Davis: D
Limited time. Was active at least, but generally ineffective.
Duany Duany: D
Like Wills, had some forces on shots when the offense was sputtering.
