3/7 Update:
Here are the game grades from the Wisconsin/Indiana game on Sunday.
Andy Kowske: D-
Kowske continued his late season slump and did not play much down the stretch as a result. Much of Kowske's troubles came on the defensive end against Kirk Haston. Offensively, he was not a factor, contributing only a bunny off a Vershaw feed.
Charlie Wills: B-
Wills picked up the slack from Kowske and was a solid presence defensively against Haston and on the glass. One negative was his inability to finish under the basket (wiht his only hoop coming on a tip in).
Roy Boone: F
Two very bad turnovers and 3 missed shots in his sparse time. Boone did rebound well.
Mike Kelley: B
Kelley was a rock, playing 39 minutes of inspired/controlled (no turnovers) ball. He had some trouble early against Guyton, especially in getting through Indiana's moving screens. Once switched to Lewis, he was his usual successful defender. Offensively, Kelley hit one open jumper (conceded by Guyton) but more importantly 6 clutch free throws on his way to 10 points. Kelley also added 6 rebounds, which is I believe a season high.
Jon Bryant: C-
Missed some wide open jumpers early and seemed to be pressing a bit. Did bury one 3 in the second half and was strong with the ball.
Mark Vershaw: C
Vershaw was terrific in the first half with a wide array of moves around the hoop (though his shot wouldn't drop from the perimeter). In the second half, IU took away the post game and Vershaw forced a few mid range (and long range) jumpers trying to get things going. He did add 5 very valuable assists though he also had 3 turnovers, primarily in the second half as he forced the action.
Maurice Linton: A
Another excellent effort from Linton. Maurice took makable shots and it paid off as Mo hit on 7 of 9. IU did not have an answer as Linton took guys like Fife down low and drove around big defenders like Haston. He was also very strong on the glass with 10 boards. However, most importantly, Linton had only 1 turnover.
Travon Davis: C-
Played only 1 minute and had a pedestrian assist, though also made a terrible forced drive which led to a turnover.
Duany Duany: B
Doc got off to a slow start but really picked up the slack when the team needed it most, scoring 9 straight points, getting the Badgers back in the game. Duany also did a pretty good job on Guyton when Kelley needed a blow and/or had trouble guarding him. What I was impressed with was that Duany's points did not all come via the 3, but were primarily the result of some indside/mid range shots.
